Marija has started her career in her native Belgrade where she designed for TV, film, theatre as well as costumes for product branding and corporate events. She was trained in Costume Design at the University of Fine Arts in Belgrade and holds an MFA in Theatre Design from University of Connecticut.
She has worked with some of the most exciting theatre and dance companies in North America and Europe. Her New York credits include the Juilliard School, Encompass New Opera Theatre, Cedar Lake Dance Company among others. Regionally, she has designed for the Berkshire Theatre Festival (MA), Connecticut Rep(CT), PortOpera (ME), Ballet West (UT), NC Dance Theatre (NC), CityDance (DC) just to name a few.
In Montreal, her credits include Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Repercussion Theatre, PorteParole, The Other Theatre, Geordie Productions, Infinitheatre, Groupe de Poesie Moderne, Theatre Experimental etc.
Marija’s work has been a part of many renowned theatre exhibitions throughout the globe, including the Prague Quadrennial, the most renowned theatre exhibition in the world. In 2008, she was invited to exhibit her work at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in a show titled; “100 Years of Outstanding Women Designers”.
Her work has won her great artistic acclaim and awards such as respected USITT’s award for costume design and a nomination for the New York Innovative Theatre Award. Marija is also teaching and mentoring design students at the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada (École nationale de théâtre du Canada)
